- What kind of wood do you make your furniture out of?
- Most of it is native Texas mesquite, red cedar, mountain cedar, and pecan. We also work in oak. If you want something else, we can build in just about any hardwood available — and we can build it from your own tree.
- Do you take custom orders?
- Yes. We will build just about anything made from wood. Bring your ideas and sit down with our builders — they will sketch your piece on paper first so you can see it before a board gets cut.
- Can you really build furniture from my own tree?
- We can. People bring us trees that came down in a storm, or ones that meant something to somebody. We mill it on our own sawmill, dry it in our kilns, and build from it. It takes longer than buying off the floor, because the wood has to dry properly first.
- Where do you get the wood you build with?
- It arrives in log form. We have an on-site sawmill that processes the logs into lumber, and large kilns where we dry it. Everything happens on this property, within sight of the showroom porch.
- Why do the pieces look so different from one another?
- No two products we make ever look completely identical. The woods we use have so much character and colour that each piece comes out original. We avoid dark stains that hide the wood’s natural beauty, and use mostly natural oils and clear coats instead.
- What makes your furniture different from store-bought?
- All of it is made by hand by professional craftsmen, some of whom have been in the trade most of their lives. Quality gets decided at the starting material and at every joint after it — and because we mill our own lumber, we see all of it.
- Do you deliver?
- Call the store and ask — it depends on the piece and where you are.
- Do you have the Star of Texas rocker in stock?
- Sometimes. It is the high-back rocker with a five-point star hand-carved through the headrest, and demand has always run ahead of supply. Call ahead if you are making a special trip for one.
